School Governors

School governors play an important role in school life to lead, support and improve.  They act as a between parents, the local community and the school. Governors are impartial and make decisions that seek to improve the school.

At each meeting governors receive, discuss and make decisions on a range of subjects, for example:

  • budgets
  • recruitment of staff
  • disciplinary issues
  • health and safety and maintenance
  • pupils performance
  • school inspection reports

Many issues are dealt with by committees and then approved by the full governing body.

Governors need to attend governors' meetings on a regular basis, as well as committee meetings where relevant.

By committing a small amount of time, you will have the satisfaction of becoming part of a team involved in running the school.  You will learn skills that will help you in other areas of your life and benefit from free training.
