At Oldcastle School, we encourage all pupils to wear school uniform to foster a sense of community and equality. Wearing appropriate school uniform is a practical and economical choice for all families.

School Uniform

Our expectation is that pupils who attend Oldcastle Primary wear a school uniform. Wearing a school uniform builds a strong sense of belonging and promotes equality. Because of this, starting in September, we are asking for your full support in ensuring that all pupils wear the school uniform every day.

Important Note on Branded Clothes & Football Shirts

Branded clothing and football kits will no longer be worn during the school day, including PE days. These are best saved for weekends and evenings. If a pupil arrives wearing items such as football shirts, a member of staff will call you so we can arrange a quick change of clothes.

We want to reassure you that you do not need to buy expensive logo-embroidered items.

• Unbranded, affordable options from local supermarkets are completely fine and fully encouraged.
• Clothing emblazoned with the school logo is available locally if you wish, but it is not required.
• We run a free Uniform Swap Shop in our main reception area. Racks of pre-loved items are available for anyone to take, completely free of charge. Please help yourself!

School Uniform Guidelines

To help with your back-to-school shopping, here is a quick guide to what pupils may wear:

Bottoms

Grey or black trousers, black leggings, skirts, or pinafore dresses.

(Summer: Grey shorts or blue/red check dresses)

Tops

Red or white polo shirts.

(Lightweight t-shirts are also available locally for summer)

Layers

Blue jumpers, cardigans, or hoodies

Footwear

Dark-coloured school shoes/trainers

(Backless sandals and Crocs are not allowed)

Socks & Tights

Dark blue, grey, or black socks or red, grey or navy tights.

(White socks may be worn in summer)

PE Kit Expectations

• Dark shorts, a plain white t-shirt, a school jumper and trainers. Nike pro shorts are not suitable for school. 
• Tracksuits may be worn for outdoor PE during colder winter months.
• PE kit may be worn to school on the designated PE day.

A Few Extra Reminders for the Term Ahead

• We ask that pupils dress neatly. Long hair should be tied back for safety. Shaved patterns and coloured/dyed hair are not allowed at school.
• Jewellery and smartwatches should be left at home. If your child has pierced ears, small studs are permitted, but these must be removed or covered with micropore tape during PE lessons.
• Nail varnish, false nails, and temporary tattoo transfers are not permitted.
• Please label everything! Coats, jumpers, bags, lunchboxes, and water bottles should all be clearly marked with your child's first name and class so we can return lost items quickly.

Oldcastle Primary School's PE uniform is dark shorts, a white t-shirt and black plimsolls or trainers.  Tracksuits may be worn in the winter months.  

Expectations

Pupils are expected to dress neatly and appropriately.  

We encourage long hair to be tied back to avoid injury, and patterns shaved onto the head are considered inappropriate for school. Jewellery must not be worn to school.  If your child has pierced ears, small studs are permitted but must be removed or covered with micro-pore tape for PE. 

Smart watches are not allowed to be worn.

Nail varnish, false nails or transfers should not be worn to school.

Please label your child's school uniform items, coat, bag, lunchbox, and bottle with their first name and class. 

We offer a uniform swap shop for parents.  The uniform is free of charge and available on racks in the main reception.
