• Oldcastle Primary bags £5000 from Tesco carrier bag charge

  Oldcastle Primary School is delighted to announce it has bagged £5000 from a Tesco funding scheme.

   

  Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its Bags of Help funding initiative, which sees grants of up to £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to thousands of local community projects every year.

   

  Millions of shoppers voted in stores in the South Wales region throughout January, and it can now be revealed Oldcastle Primary School has been awarded £5000. Work will now begin on bringing the project to life. The funding will allow the School to develop our school garden and cob oven project. Our aim is to allow children to prepare and cook food in the cob oven, and ultimately learn more about heathy eating. The cob oven is an exciting addition to the School and is a low carbon process in which you can bake bread, pizza, roast vegetables and meats. We are keen to utilise the oven and develop the garden area as much as possible, and we are pleased to receive the grant from Tesco to allow us to inspire, motivate and educate children and parents.

   

  Jeremy Malessa-Thomson, Headteacher at Oldcastle Primary School, “We are delighted to receive the funding from the Bags of Help initiative and we are looking forward to developing our school garden so that children can enjoy learning in the outdoor environment. The School is grateful to all the Tesco customers who voted for us throughout January”.

   

  Lindsey Crompton, Tesco’s Head of Community, said: “Bags of Help has been a fantastic success. We’ve been overwhelmed by the response from our customers. The great thing about Bags of Help is that local people are invited to decide how the money will be spent in their community. We can’t wait to see the projects come to life.”

  

• Schoop Communication App

  Oldcastle Primary School is one of the first schools to sign up to the new communication app called SCHOOP.  Its easy to use and allows parents to keep up to date with news and events. 

   

  All you need to do is download the free app from your App store / Google Play. Run the app and register with our school number 11040.
