  • Platinum Eco-Schools Award

    Mon 09 Dec 2019 SP

Oldcastle Primary retains the Platinum Eco-Schools Award!

Oldcastle Primary School are delighted to have retained the Eco-Schools Platinum award again this year.

Eco-schools is a global programme and is designed to inspire young people to make a positive environmental change.  At Oldcastle Primary we operate a whole school approach to the environment with our Children’s Voice Council ensuring all issues are delivered.

Our Children’s Voice Council are tasked with undertaking an environmental review and developing an action plan for the Eco-Schools application.  Our focus on the reduction of single use plastic through the introduction of a milk machine was commended.  Children in foundation phase now receive their daily measured milk in a re-useable plastic cup instead of the single use small plastic bottles.

The school are also committed to implementing cleaner power and have installed solar panels on our canteen building. This has shown our commitment to reducing energy costs and producing clean power. As a school we are keen to extend the use of solar panels on additional areas of the school buildings.

Schools that achieve the Eco-Schools Green Flag award four times will receive the Platinum award status demonstrating the long term commitment to environmental education, student involvement and sustainability. Platinum schools are ranked amongst the best in the world in the Eco-Schools programme!
